Champions League roundup: Liverpool hold off Atletico, Bayern Munich thrash Chelsea


Matchday 2 of this season’s Champions League produced some intriguing results across Europe on Wednesday night.

Liverpool required a late Virgil van Dijk header to edge Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Anfield.

The Premier League champions had raced into a two-goal lead through Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

However, Atletico fought back to level the match, with Marcos Llorente scoring twice.

Bayern Munich outclassed Chelsea 3-1 in Germany, with Harry Kane netting a brace for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Atalanta 3-0.

In the earlier fixtures, debutants Pafo and Bodo/Glimt both drew, while Marcus Thuram’s brace secured a 2-0 victory for Inter Milan at Ajax.
