Banks, Restaurants and Transport Operators Exempted From Business Suspension on September 18
The funeral committee for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, has exempted banks, restaurants, transport operators, and pharmaceutical shops from its directive to suspend business activities on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
The committee’s announcement, signed by Acting Chief of Staff Ambassador Nana Effah Apenteng, comes as the Ashanti Region prepares for the final burial rites of the late Queen Mother on Thursday night.
According to the statement, all other businesses in Kumasi are expected to strictly comply with the directive, which forms part of the cultural and traditional observances surrounding the funeral. Schools and markets are to remain closed during the day.
Ambassador Apenteng also reminded the public that there will be restrictions on movement during the day and night of September 18.
However, essential service providers, including the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, Fire Service personnel, the Ghana National Ambulance Service, and the Ghana Health Service, are excluded from the restrictions and will be allowed to operate without hindrance.
Despite the exemptions, the committee stressed that by 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, all businesses across the city — including those initially exempted — are expected to close as a mark of respect for Asante culture and tradition.
The burial rites of Nana Konadu Yiadom III are expected to draw large crowds from across the country and beyond, with significant cultural and ceremonial activities taking place throughout Kumasi.
