Police launch full-scale operation to free abducted ex-Imo lawmaker


The Imo State Police Command has announced a full-scale operation to ensure the safe rescue of former Imo State lawmaker, Ngozi Ogbu, who was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

A press statement issued by police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that the Command is aware of a viral video showing Ngozi Ogbu, the former state legislator who represented the Okigwe State Constituency, being held hostage by suspected IPOB members.

He stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reacting to the development, has ordered the immediate deployment of the command’s tactical units, in synergy with other security agencies, to secure Ogbu’s release.

Okoye added that a detailed investigation has been launched to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the lawmaker, who was abducted in Onuimo LGA.

According to the statement, the command has appealed to the general public to remain calm and vigilant.

It also urged anyone with useful information that could assist the ongoing operation to contact the Imo State Police Command on 0803 477 3600 or report to the nearest police station.

The command assured Imolites that it will not relent until the perpetrators are brought to justice and the victim is safely reunited with his family.
