Gov Alia, Umahi flag off Wurukum flyover project in Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in company of the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, on Saturday officially flagged off the construction of a multi-lane flyover at the Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi.
The long-awaited project follows the recent demolition of the famous Food Basket monument that once stood at the busy intersection, a move the state government said was necessary to pave the way for the new infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Alia described the flyover as a landmark investment to decongest traffic, boost commerce and enhance the capital’s aesthetics.
He expressed confidence that the partnership with the Federal Ministry of Works would accelerate delivery and bring lasting economic benefits to Benue residents.
Minister Umahi reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to modernising critical road networks across the country, noting that the Wurukum project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to strengthen transport infrastructure and stimulate development nationwide.
