We will join strike action if govt does not respond – Resident Doctors in Ilorin

Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, will go on strike on Friday as directed by the national secretariat of the association.
President of the UITH chapter, Dr M.O.Awodun, disclosed this in a phone chat with DAILY POST in Ilorin on Thursday.
Asked if the chapter will comply with the national secretariat of the association on the nationwide warning strike purportedly declared to commence on Friday, Dr Awodun, said the chapter will certainly comply if the Federal government failed to honour the demands of the body.
He, however, explained that only the Abuja chapter of the body is on strike for now, which started on Monday.
“We are not on strike, only Abuja chapter is on warning strike for one week,” he stated.
According to him, the Abuja national secretariat held a e-NEC meeting on Wednesday where the members unanimously resolved to embark on a 5-day warning strike if their demands are not met by the Federal government.
DAILY POST learnt that the 5-day warning strike which is expected to commence nationwide from Friday September 12,2025, is to press home their demands for better working conditions as confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the General-Secretary of the association, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Agbor Affiong.
The national secretariat directed all centres to inform their hospital managements and continue to press the collective demands of the association.
The association aims to shut down the country’s public hospitals to demand action over poor working conditions, shortage of power, downgrading of certificates and poor remuneration among other grievances.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s chapter of the association, started the strike on Monday this week.
