Governor Bago partners ICAN to audit Niger State’s finances

Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has partnered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, to audit the state’s financial records, correct anomalies where necessary, and identify areas for improvement in its accounting system.

The governor stated this while declaring open the 20th Northern Zonal Accountants’ Conference in Minna, with the theme, “Accountability and National Re-orientation: Unlocking Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Potentials.”

According to him, “The partnership with ICAN to audit the state’s financial record would set an example for other states of the federation, because transparency and fiscal discipline are necessary tools for delivering good governance and unlocking the vast potentials of the state economy.”

He noted that the conference theme was apt and reflective of the current national situation, stressing that accountability, rebuilding trust, fostering national values, and stimulating economic growth cannot be overemphasised.

“My administration will continue to strengthen institutions of accountability for the benefit of the people,” he said, urging participants to deliberate and come up with practical recommendations to help governments at all levels build stronger systems and inspire public confidence.

The ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, expressed delight with the partnership to audit Niger State’s financial books and assured that ICAN would remain independent in carrying out the task.
