Wike accused of having more than half leg in APC

Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Naira Times, Ehi Braimah, has said that Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, is contributing to the prolonged crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Braimah suggested that Wike has aligned himself more with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Breakfast Show on Friday, Braimah said politicians, alongside the judiciary, were weakening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Braimah noted that Wike has continued to destabilise the PDP while maintaining ties with the APC.

He lamented that the PDP has remained in crisis since the 2023 presidential election and has failed to discipline erring members.

“Politicians are the greatest threat against our democracy. Unfortunately, the judiciary is being used as a partner in making democratic democratic institutions very, very weak.

“Now even talk about PDP. PDP, unfortunately, is being in a crisis mode for as long as I can remember, since the last presidential election; an institution whereby they cannot even discipline some of their members, all we hear is, oh, they will do this, they will do that. But I heard some of them coming out forcefully recently, saying that the convention must hold.

“The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, I think has been a big problem for that party. Unfortunately, they’ve not been able to tame the FCT minister, so to speak. I use that word advisably. I see the FCT minister from time to time…, and now they have even given conditions for the convention to hold in November in Ibadan. That is not necessary.

“Maybe there is a deliberate plan to weaken PDP so that the ruling party, APC, you know, will just have it very smoothly in 2027. Maybe that is the role Wike is playing, you know, by having one leg in PDP and one leg in APC,” he said.

“The actual fact is that he has more than half leg in APC and just half leg in PDP. Everything he’s doing with his associates is just to create crisis within the party, you know, non ending crisis.”

Braimah also criticised Nigerian politicians generally, accusing them of being self-serving.

“But politicians generally, they are not helping our case. They are so self centered. They are selfish. They just think about themselves,” he added.
