Suspected herdsmen kill four in Benue community

At least four people have been killed and several settlements destroyed in attacks by suspected armed herders in Tombu Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, August 25, was confirmed by a community leader, Joseph Anawah.
According to him, the assailants, believed to be Fulani marauders, invaded the area around 3 pm, setting fire to several deserted settlements, including Tse Mku in Tombu.
“Two farmers were killed on their farmlands at the outskirts of Ayilamo. They were Mr. Kaananfam Nyamikume of Tse Jigam village and Mr. Mson from Guma LGA. A local medicine vendor was also killed,” Anawah said.
He further disclosed that on Sunday, August 24, another villager, Mr. Saaondo Mundu Azaye of Tse Azaye, was murdered.
On Tuesday, while searching for missing persons, residents recovered two more bodies near Tse Uza settlement, while two other farmers remain unaccounted for.
Anawah alleged that the attackers are camped in deserted settlements, including Tse Ibor and Tse Ukpukuru in Anyibe, within the Mbawien clan of Tombu Council Ward.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she required time to verify the report and would respond later. As of press time, however, calls to her line had gone unanswered.
