2027: Even if new INEC chairman’s son contests for presidency, Tinubu will win – APC
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will retain his seat as Nigerian President in 2027 no matter who emerges as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The National Secretary of the ruling party, Ajibola Basiru, made the remark in an interview with The Sun.
DAILY POST reports that the second tenure of the current INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu is expected to relapse this year.
Reports indicate that Mahmood’s replacement is currently being sought for.
Asked if the APC-led government is seeking to recommend a new chairman for the electoral body, Ajibola Basiru said, “how can you be asking a player to recommend a referee? We are players and don’t care about which referee was brought to officiate the match”.
According to him, “the recommendation is the job of civil society organisations and lawmakers.
“Our own job is to mobilize, galvanized, and sensitise our members for whoever they like. In fact, by the time we mobilise, even if the new chairman of INEC is the father of the presidential candidate of another party, Asiwaju will still win the election.”
