Police confirm electrocuted Aba vandal dead

Abia State Police Command has confirmed that the body of an unidentified man who died at Omuma Road in Aba, while trying to vandalize an APL transformer, has been deposited in a morgue.
The Police Command also said that the suspected vandal was confirmed dead by a doctor after he was evacuated from the scene of the incident.
This development was made known by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of Abia Command in a statement she issued on Thursday.
She said the incident was reported to the Abia State Police Command on August 19, 2025, causing the officers from Eziama Police Division to go to the scene before the electrocuted man was evacuated and then confirmed dead by a doctor.
DSP Chinaka, who said that Police had commenced investigation on the matter, warned the public against stealing or vandalizing government property, even as she said that those buying stolen property were contributing to the spike in vandalism cases in Abia.
She disclosed that vandalism was among the top incidents recorded last month in Abia by the Police.
The police cautioned Abia public to insist on original receipts of equipment or property before buying such, warning that those vandalising or buying stolen items were committing big criminal offenses punishable by law.
