Trafficking: Adamawa govt reunites 14 children with their families

The Adamawa State Government has reunited the 14 children rescued from traffickers last month with their families.

The event which took place in Yola, Wednesday, officially marked the end of a story which began much earlier last month when the state Police Command, actively supported by the state government, traced the trafficked children to Anambra State and brought them to Yola.

The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta handed the children to their parents on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri who is currently not in the country.

Performing the handing over of the children, the deputy governor appreciated the security agencies for their role in getting the children safely back to Yola.

She said ”the monster of child trafficking unfortunately caught up with Adamawa State but that it is gladdening that the children are back to be with their parents.”

She disclosed that the woman behind the children being taken from their parents had the practice of using snacks to lure her victims whom she sold to her accomplice in Anambra State.

The children were initially reported to be 13 in number, but it was learnt Wednesday that one of them who was in hospital and was not reckoned with all the while, joined the children after recovering, and all the 14 were officially handed to their parents during the official reuniting ceremony which took place at the Deputy Governor’s Office, Yola.

Each of the parents was given the cash sum of N100,000 from the state government to start small businesses and take care of their children.
