Kano community bans late-night boyfriend, girlfriend meetings, tinted car romance

The Sharada community in Kano State has introduced 29 new local laws to curb rising crime and immoral activities.

One of the rules bans boyfriend-girlfriend meetings after 10 p.m.

Announcing the decision, the village head, Alhaji Iliyasu Muazu Sharada, said the laws were agreed upon after discussions with ward heads and community elders.

The new regulations also include a ban on lovers meeting in tinted vehicles and restrictions on horse riding during wedding celebrations.

In addition, lawyers and house agents must get approval from the village head before renting out any property.

Community elders said the rules are meant to improve security, pointing out that criminals often use late-night meetings and tinted cars as a cover for robbery and sexual harassment.

“We have arrested men pretending to be with girlfriends, only to discover they were engaged in immoral or criminal acts,” said Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, a resident.

He added that the measures would help separate genuine couples from those with bad intentions.

Sharada, which has both residential and industrial areas, has been facing more security problems in recent times.

Elders believe the new laws will help restore moral values and protect young people from bad influences.

“We cannot allow activities that lead to immorality or crime. This is a good step to protect our youth,” the village head stressed.

The Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government, Salim Hashim, backed the decision and promised full enforcement, calling the laws important for community safety.
