Kaduna Govt dismisses fraud allegations over Ahmadu Bello Stadium reconstruction

The Kaduna State Government has denied allegations of contract racketeering and administrative misconduct in the planned reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Kumai Gugong, said on Sunday that the claims were false and aimed at misleading the public.

He explained that the federal government handed over the stadium to the state earlier this year in poor condition, prompting the ministry to seek Governor Uba Sani’s approval for a full upgrade to meet FIFA, CAF and NFF standards.

According to him, the procurement process, approved in May 2025, was initiated and managed by the ministry in line with Kaduna State Public Procurement Authority, KADPPA, laws.

Gugong dismissed suggestions that the ministry was sidelined in awarding the contract, insisting that the process was transparent and lawful.

He said the project would transform Kaduna into a major sports destination, capable of hosting international events, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy.
