Witkoff in Moscow for high-stakes talks as Trump’s Ukraine ceasefire deadline nears

U.S. Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff has arrived in Moscow ahead of a crucial meeting scheduled for Wednesday with senior Russian officials, just days before President Donald Trump’s deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine expires.
Witkoff was received at the airport by Russia’s investment envoy on Tuesday, Kirill Dmitriev, a source familiar with the visit confirmed to reporters.
The meeting, expected to take place later today, is part of last-ditch diplomatic efforts by Washington to secure a halt to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
US president Trump had previously warned that new sanctions would be imposed on Moscow if it fails to agree to a ceasefire before Friday.
He also indicated that Witkoff might travel to Russia this week to deliver that message directly.
