Most bandits in Zamfara are indigenous – Shinkafi

Former Chairman of the Bandits Prosecution Committee, Abdullahi Shinkafi, has alleged that more than 80 percent of armed bandits in Zamfara state are indigenous.

Shinkafi, who made this allegation on Thursday, when he appeared as a guest on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television, said the bandits were born and brought up in Zamfara State.

He lamented about the porosity of Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring countries of Niger Republic, Cameroon, Chad and Benin Republic.

“Most of these armed bandits including Boko Haram and ISWAP are indigenous. Like more than 80% in Zamfara. They were born and brought up in Zamfara state.

“Nigeria has more than 4000 km borders on the sea and on land, and 18 states in Nigeria share border with some foreign countries. It is very easy for trafficking of drugs arms through the Nigerian border.

“Our borders are very porous. More than 1600 are illegal routes. Only about 160 are legal routes. So looking at the porosity of the border, there is possible input of foreign elements,” he lamented.
