DSS, army arrest suspected arms trafficker in Taraba, recover ammunition, others

Security operatives have intercepted a suspected arms trafficker in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

This follows a joint raid by Nigerian Army troops and the Department of State Services (DSS) operatives after an intelligence report.

Zagazola Malala, a security expert around Lake Chad said the army confirmed this on Thursday.

It said it arrested 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib, a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

Shuaib is believed to be a key suspect  in a wider arms trafficking network that has been under surveillance.

During the operation, troops recovered a significant quantity of ammunition and other suspicious items.

Among the items seized were 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, ₦842,100 in cash, a black Jing Cheng motorcycle, two mobile phones (Redmi and itel), two silver rings, and an ATM card belonging to First Bank.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and, according to security officials, has been cooperating with investigators, providing intelligence that may help unravel a broader network of illicit arms dealers operating in the region.

Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the personnel involved for their precision and discipline in executing the mission.

Uwa also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the military and other security agencies with information.
