Police arrest couple, one other for illegal possession of pistol in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a couple and another woman for allegedly being in possession of a semi-automatic pistol without authorisation.
The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, via a post on his official X handle, @benHundeyin.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended by officers attached to the Ipaja Division during a stop-and-search operation in the Ipaja area of Lagos.
“While conducting a routine search, officers intercepted two women and insisted on examining the contents of their bags,” Hundeyin stated.
The search, he explained, led to the discovery of a semi-automatic pistol.
Further interrogation of the women revealed that the firearm belonged to the husband of one of the suspects, who was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody.
Hundeyin added that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for a comprehensive investigation.
“That is one less illegal firearm in circulation,” he noted.
