No politics in Nigeria just people scrambling for office – PDP Scribe, Mark Jacob

A former National Legal Advisor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mark Jacob, has said there is no politics in Nigeria but people just scrambling for offices at the moment.

Speaking to DAILY POST in Kaduna on Wednesday, Jacob, who is also a former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Kaduna State said, “Anybody can use fine words to preach sermon but in politics, it is difficult to separate the messenger from the message.

“So personally, l don’t trust some of the characters that are hanging around and describing themselves as the people that want to rescue Nigeria. I don’t understand how such people can shamelessly say so. We have seen them in public service. We also know their antecedents of some of them even in their homes.

“We know what they stand for and what they portray themselves to be. It is difficult for me to align the message they are carrying, the message is completely different from what they are and that makes it difficult to understand anything about them.”

Speaking about the PDP, the former National Legal Adviser explained that there is no alternative to the party, saying that it is the only party that has structure in every ward of the country.

He added, “In my environment, since independence, everything was brought by the PDP. All you see be it road, schools, health institution or anything is the legacy of PDP.”

According to him, all the people jumping from one political party to the other have nothing to show of what they have done to their constituents, stressing that politics is more than what you do to an individual but the entire people should be the priority of every politician.

He added that some people moved to other parties simply because they felt nothing was done for them, describing such as transactional politics.

Jacob described the future of PDP as very bright because many people are leaving the party, saying that they are creating the space for others in the party to move forward and showcase their potentials.

He said, “Some people like Atiku Abubakar have become great problems to the party. I celebrated the very day Atiku left the party because he always insists that he be the flag bearer of the party in every election. Now with his departure, there will be a true primary election in the party to elect a candidate that will represent the party in future elections.”

He lamented that the eight years of late President Muhammadu Buhari brought serious setback to democracy in Nigeria, saying that all the gains Nigeria had from 1999 to 2015 were completely destroyed, “Buhari and his gang made sure that everything was lost”.

“They came with a mission to put the country on reverse gear and put on speeding. I pity Tinubu a lot because he is trying to restrategise and reposition the country but he is using unethical methods of starting the process,” he lamented.

He alleged, “Politics in Nigeria died in the hands of Buhari and the political growth of the country has been distorted.”
