Protest over unpaid entitlements: Ex-Chairmen, councillors seek police protection in Ekiti

Former local government chairmen, councillors, and other political office holders at the local government level in Ekiti State have asked the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Joseph Eribo, to provide them security cover during their planned protest.

The former political office holders, under the auspices of the Forum of Local Government Past Political Office Holders (2004 to 2007 Set), made this request via a letter addressed to the police boss.

The letter was signed by their Coordinator, Hon. Olufemi Adebayo, and Secretary, Barrister Ayodeji Ibrahim.

The letter was made available to DAILY POST Tuesday morning.

The former local government officials, in the letter titled “Notice of Peaceful Civil Protest and Request for Police Protection,” enjoined the CP to provide them with security cover during the planned protest.

They noted that they decided to protest due to the non-payment of their entitlements.

The duo, in the letter, insisted that they had used various methods to get their entitlements but met a brick wall.

They maintained that they served their respective local government areas between 2004 and 2007.

The duo, while speaking further, lamented that their entitlements have not been paid eighteen years after they left office.

The former local government officials said that it is on this background that they decided to express their grievances through a peaceful protest.

They concluded by urging the Commissioner of Police to provide them with all the necessary police protection.

“We hereby request the presence and protection of the Nigerian Police Force to ensure our protest remains orderly, safe, and peaceful. We are committed to abiding by all laws and regulations governing public demonstrations, and we categorically reject any form of violence, provocation, or conduct that could lead to a breakdown of law and order before, during, or after the protest.”
