Man accuses Omah Lay of borrowing ₦12,000 from him to invest in MMM in 2014

A Nigerian man who claims to be a longtime friend of popular singer and songwriter Omah Lay has taken to social media to call out the artist for allegedly owing him ₦12,000, which he says was borrowed back in 2014 to invest in the now-defunct MMM scheme.
The story was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @AsakyGRN, who posted a video showing the face of the man making the accusation.
In the video, the man recounts how Omah Lay, during his early days in Port Harcourt, convinced him to hand over ₦12,000 to invest in the controversial Ponzi scheme, MMM.
He claims he wasn’t interested in MMM at the time but agreed to lend Omah Lay the money after being persuaded.
His words:
“He owes me ₦12,000. When he was in the hood, he told me to invest in MMM. I said I didn’t do those things, but he said it would be profitable because others were doing it. He asked me for ₦12,000. I gave him the ₦12,000.”
The man also made several other statements in the video, maintaining that he has yet to receive his money.
As the video circulated online, social media users flooded the comment section with mixed reactions, with some questioning the timing of the call-out and others poking fun at the situation.
