Benue: ‘No land was sold’ – Orokam community refutes land-grabbing claims by Onyirofie, Ogabor, 9 others
The A’Inamu community in Orokam district of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State, has disassociated itself from recent land-grabbing allegations made against some of its leaders, including retired Major General John Enenche.
The community, in a statement signed by Mr. Akor Enokela, Assistant General Secretary of the A’Inamu Development Association (ADA) National, said the claims made by Barrister James Onyirofie on behalf of Emmanuel Ogabor and nine others lacked merit and were a cheap blackmail attempt aimed at tarnishing the image of respected figures in the clan.
According to the statement, the eldest custodian of the A’Inamu land had never at any time sold or ceded any part of the community’s land to the said individuals, contrary to what was reported online and aired on a radio station on July 21, 2025.
“For the purpose of clarity, the alleged excavation of sand from A’Inamu land by Major General John Enenche (rtd) was not on any monetary agreement but purely for grading the major road in the community,” the statement read.
The A’Inamu Clan further expressed disappointment over the misrepresentation, noting that the so-called A’Inamu Youths mentioned in the reports do not represent the collective interest of the clan.
They commended the recognised A’Inamu Youths Association led by Pastor Emmanuel Iyaba for its responsible and law-abiding leadership over the years.
The statement emphasized that the allegations made against Major Gen. Enenche, His Royal Highness the Third-Class Chief of Orokam and Owukpa districts, and Chief Joseph Idoko, were not only unsubstantial but also an affront to the integrity of the clan and its respected figures.
While calling on the general public to disregard the publications, the clan noted that the matter is already before the court, and any further public misrepresentation should be seen as contemptuous.
“The A’Inamu Clan has maintained a long-standing and peaceful relationship with Chief D.E. Enenche, his family, and other clans in Orokam. No act of betrayal by individuals will break that bond,” the statement added.
They urged all stakeholders, especially the accused leaders, to remain calm and allow the legal process to run its course.
