Pre-season: I’m extremely happy with him – Arteta hails Arsenal star, Dowman compared to Messi
Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, says he is very happy with youngster Max Dowman.
Arsenal fans have likened Dowman to football legend Lionel Messi.
The 15-year-old, who was introduced to the Gunners’ first team during pre-season activities, has enjoyed a brilliant start.
He was impressive coming off the bench against AC Milan and Newcastle United.
Speaking to reporters after their 3-2 win over Newcastle United, Arteta admitted that the club has a special talent on their hands.
“Yeah, it is special. Obviously what he’s done today against this team in the time that he had on the pitch is something certainly not common to witness for a 15-year-old.
“We are extremely happy to have him. I think again the environment that he’s around in. His family, the people at the club and around the academy as well, super helpful because they put him into this position so early in his journey, having a real chance and a real presence when he plays for the first time.”
Arsenal fans have been left excited by the performance of the young midfielder and took to social media platform X to compare him to Messi.
