Okoronkwo wins Woman of the Match as Super Falcons clinch 10th WAFCON title


Nigeria’s Esther Okoronkwo on Saturday night won the Woman of the Match award after guiding her team to beat Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON.

The AFC Toronto forward scored a goal and also provided two assists as the Super Falcons defeated Morocco 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

Okoronkwo also finished the tournament with two goals and six assists.

Recall that Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy’s goals were cancelled out in the second half, with Okoronkwo inspiring a comeback for Nigeria.

Okoronkwo, 28, pulled one back from the spot before setting up Folashade Ijamilusi for the equalizer.

Jennifer Echegini then got on the end of a free-kick to score a late winner.

The victory ensured the Super Falcons lifted their 10th WAFCON trophy.
