14 villagers, mobile police officer killed in two attacks in Chirang, Plateau

Two fresh separate attacks on Chirang community, Thursday, by gunmen have led to the death of about 14 villagers and police personnel in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Chirang community was attacked by the gunmen around 4:00 pm when the villagers were returning from Bokkos market to Mangor village in the locality.
Kefas Mallai, the chairman, Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, confirmed the killings on Thursday night, saying that there was an attack on their people about 4:00 pm in the evening.
He lamented that fourteen natives were ambushed and killed by suspected terrorists while three others were injured on their way from Bokkos market to Mangor village of Bokkos LG.
The chairman said security personnel had taken over control of the area to ensure the safety of the community.
According to him, “the attack came on the heels of another incident earlier in the day, where a mobile police officer was killed at his duty post.”
He further explained that the police officer was manning a checkpoint along Richa Road in the same Bokkos LG before he was killed, describing the situation as “very unfortunate”.
”Our hearts are bleeding because early the morning, on 24th July, 2025, a MOPOL was killed at his duty post (checkpoint) along Richa road, Bokkos LGA, he said.
The Chairman of the Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Amalau while confirming the attacks, said the situation was an emergency.
Alabo Alfred, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command could not be reached as his phone indicated that it was switched off.
