Hope Uzodinma confuses Tinubu for late Buhari in condolence speech

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, made a slip of the tongue during a condolence speech as he mourned the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, accidentally referring to President Bola Tinubu instead.

The incident occurred during a church programme held in honour of the late Nigerian leader, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

While offering prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul, Governor Uzodinma momentarily confused the names of the two presidents.

In his words:

“May the soul of the former President, President Bola… President Muhammadu Buhari and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercies of God rest in peace, Amen.”

The gaffe, though brief, sparked murmurs among attendees, with many attributing it to a momentary lapse given the solemnity of the occasion.

Despite the mix-up, Uzodinma continued his tribute without pause, describing Buhari as a patriotic leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development would not be forgotten.
