The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven rejected a ₦13.7 million bribe offered by two terrorists during an anti-terror operation along the Jos-Sanga Road in Plateau State.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, during a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, gave updates on military operations across the country.
According to Kangye, the troops had responded to a distress call on July 9 about terrorist activities in the area when they intercepted a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. Inside the vehicle were two terror suspects who attempted to bribe the soldiers with ₦13.7 million, which was promptly rejected.
“Troops arrested two suspects, recovered weapons, ammunition, a vehicle and the sum of ₦13.7 million from them. The suspects attempted to induce troops with monetary gratification, which they declined,” Kangye stated.
The intercepted vehicle and recovered items are currently in the custody of the military as investigations continue.
Expanded Jos-Sanga operations and arrests
In addition to the Jos-Sanga operation, Kangye noted that the troops carried out offensive operations and responded to distress calls in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs in Kaduna State.
During the various operations:

12 terror suspects were arrested,

Three kidnapped victims were rescued,

Several weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles were recovered,

Illicit drugs and other contraband were also seized.
Routine patrols in Barkin Ladi and Jos South (Plateau State), as well as Wamba and Sanga LGAs (Nasarawa and Kaduna States), led to the arrest of seven armed criminals and the recovery of additional arms and drugs.
DHQ commends troops, urges public support
Maj.-Gen. Kangye commended the troops for their discipline, bravery, and professionalism, particularly for resisting the bribe and apprehending the suspects.
“As the Nigerian military intensifies efforts to conclude these operations, I urge the public to continue cooperating with security agencies, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activities,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of public and media support in achieving the military’s counter-terrorism objectives and assured continued transparency in ongoing operations.
