My title means nothing to me, caused problems at school – German Princess turned model details bad sides of being royalty

Princess Eugenia of Hanover, Germany says her royal title has brought more problems than perks, especially during her school years.
The 23-year-old German aristocrat, who lives in Vienna, described how her family name created awkward challenges growing up.
“In school, I had some teachers that just didn’t like me because of it, and they also said some comments which were not very nice or reasonable,” she shared in an interview.
Eugenia, daughter of Prince Heinrich of Hanover and Princess Thyra von Westernhagen, is closely tied to the Monegasque royals through her uncle Prince Ernst, who is married to Princess Caroline of Monaco. Yet despite her lineage, she insists the title “means nothing” in her daily life.
“In Germany, it is just a name and it actually doesn’t mean anything anymore. For me, it doesn’t mean anything because I don’t see myself as something different to others.”
She admitted she didn’t care much for school, preferring to spend time with her horses. Even so, Eugenia pursued higher education and is now studying medicine at a prestigious university in Vienna, following in the footsteps of her grandfather Prince Ernest Augustus, who became an ENT professor.
Alongside her medical studies, Eugenia has also ventured into modeling – a choice her parents were initially uneasy about.
“They were apprehensive, but my mom came with me to shoots, a bit scared, and then she saw it was all fine,” Eugenia said.
Looking ahead, she’s determined to finish what she started.
“Right now I’m very happy about my life. It’s very stable. I think if I only did fashion, then that could mess it up. I only have two more years to be a general doctor. There’s no point leaving now – it wouldn’t be worth it.”
