Liverpool’s noble gesture: Club to pay Diogo Jota’s salary until contract end

Liverpool plans to honour Diogo Jota’s contract by paying his family for the remaining two years.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were in Zamora, Spain, driving towards Santander to catch a ferry to England.
Tragically, they never reached their destination. Around 12:35 a.m. local time, a blown tire caused their car to crash and burst into flames. Both Diogo and Andre, a player in the Portuguese second division, lost their lives.
Liverpool to continue Jota’s salary
Liverpool announced their intention to commemorate Jota, likely with a mural at Anfield depicting his final goal for the club, as reported by Sportal.
According to reports, the English club will continue paying Jota’s salary to support his family: his wife, Rute, whom he recently married, and their three children.
Jota’s contract ran until June 30, 2027, with an annual salary of approximately $7 million, plus performance bonuses.
During his five years with Liverpool, the former Portuguese international scored 65 goals in 182 appearances.
